Mayo 0-12, Kildare 0-09

Mayo returned to winning ways in Ballina today after suffering two defeats on the bounce in the league.

Their victory was never in much doubt today over a Kildare team that looks destined to finish bottom of the pile in Division 1B.

The Lilywhites couldn't even take advantage of playing against 14 men for much of the second half after Mayo had David Tiernan sent off when he picked up a second yellow card.

Mayo laid the foundation for their victory in the first half when, despite playing into a strong wind, led by a point at the break 0-06 to 0-05.

They controlled the second half and always looked comfortable. Only a flying save from Christ Byrne denied Conor Mortimer a wonder goal 10 minutes from time.

Maurice Sheridan, with five points, and Conor Mortimer, with three, were the scorers in chief for a Mayo team that still holds out some hope of qualifying for the latter stages of the competition.
