Tipp hurlers make stand on photo rights

The Tipperary senior hurling management team have confirmed that a decision was taken by the players prior to Sunday's clash with Offaly in the Allianz National Hurling League tie not to stand in for a team photo before the game.

The team are following in the footsteps of the Dublin footballers and other high profile sides who have decided not to stand for team photos as a result of their images being exploited by people who end up making a lot of money from the pictures.

Team boss Michael Doyle said: "The players feel that this is the one thing they have left where they can go out at the end of the year and sell team photos to raise funds for whatever reason.

"They have gone out in the past to try and sell photos but they have already been sold by other people.

"They see this as being not right and not fair. We could have stood for a photo yesterday in tracksuit tops but that would have made a mockery of the whole thing.

"We will be having further talks with the County Board in the coming weeks about this issue, but we, as a management team will be backing the players 100%."

Interestingly enough, the Offaly team did stand for a team photo on Sunday - their players have made no decision, as of yet, on the issue.
