Galway open season with easy win
Galway 1-14 Dublin 1-07
Galway opened their Allianz NHL campaign with a comfortable win over Dublin at Pearse stadium.
The sides were level at two points apiece on 13 minutes, but Galway subsequently took control and a goal and a point from Rory Gantley gave the home side a decisive break.
Dublin's first-half scores came from Kevin Flynn and Shane Martin. At half-time Galway led by 1-07 to three points. Dublin, who had wind advantage in the second half, goaled when Conal Keaney converted a penalty on 22 minutes.
However, Galway killed off the challenge with late points from Rory Gantley and a brace from Kevin Broderick to give new manager Conor Hayes his first competitive win.
