Kildare star Dermot Earley was rushed off for an X-Ray on a foot injury this afternoon as Maynooth edged out GMIT in an exciting Sigerson Cup clash.

The brilliant Kildare midfielder and GMIT captain hobbled off early on prompting fears that he may have aggravated an old foot injury that kept him out for months.

Meanwhile, Laois man Ross Munnelly hit 0-6 of Maynooth's overall tally and there were notable performances from Kerry's Marc Ó Se and Kildare's Aidan McHugh.

Maynooth led 0-5 to 0-3 at the break and with GMIT unable to use the wind to their advantage in the second-half Maynooth sealed the win with points from Munnelly, McHugh, Padraig Hurley and Tadhg Brosnan.

Maynooth scorers: R Munnelly 0-6; A McHugh 0-2; C Moran, T Brosnan & P Hurley 0-1 each.

GMIT scorers: A O'Donovan 0-3; K Comer 0-2; M Killilea, C Bane & D Mullahy 0-1 each.
