War threatens Leitrim's championship tie

Leitrim may have to scrap their Connacht SFC tie with New York in May if war breaks out between America and Iraq.

Officials from the western stronghold will keep a close eye on the current standoff that is expected to erupt into further hostility in the coming months.

County board chairman Michael McGowan said: "If war in Iraq happens, we will certainly have to re-assess the situation. It is a very difficult situation, but we are not going to take unnecessary risks."
