Whelahan blasts county board
Successful Birr manager Pat Joe Whelahan has lashed out at the Offaly County Board after they snubbed him in the race to fill the county hurling hot seat.
Former Offaly manager Whelahan was overlooked as Mike McNamara got the nod to succeed Fr Tom Fogarty.
All-Ireland winning club manager Whelahan insisted he was "disgusted with the county board".
He added: "What they've done is a disgrace. I didn't want the job.
"But, if they wanted to keep Offaly hurling alive, they should have appointed me.
"What's going to happen now? You won't see Brian Whelahan there next year or Joe Errity. They'll be gone."
