Lyons jumps to UCD defence

Dublin boss Tommy Lyons has reacted angrily to claims that UCD, a college team, should not be allowed in the county football championship.

UCD face Rathnew on Sunday and cries have been heard from some quarters that a traditional club with Dublin-based players should be involved.

Lyons contested such talk but added one proviso.

He said: "I don't think players should be allowed dual status. Anyone's perfectly entitled to play for their college, but it should be one player, one club."
