Gacquin steps down from Longford role
Longford minor football manager Jimmy Gacquin has stepped down as boss following the Midlanders' crushing All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Derry.
St Mel's College teacher Gacquin helped bridge a 64-year gap this year when he managed Longford to their first Leinster title since 1938, beating Meath in the final.
But despite being tipped as All-Ireland candidates they were beaten soundly by Derry in the semi-final. Gacquin is an outsider to take over the Roscommon senior football manager's position.
