Roscommon football squad disbanded

The entire Roscommon football team has been disbanded.

The situation has come about as a result of disciplinary problems within the squad over the last couple of months.

The entire squad was summoned to the Royal Hotel last Saturday night where they were informed of the decision.

County board chairman Stephen Banahan told the Connacht champions of 2001 that their team holiday was cancelled, and that any player who wishes to be a part of the county panel in the future must clean up their act or get out.

Controversy has followed the squad since last May, when two players were caught on a Derry hotel's security video by Irish and British tabloids playing pool, in the nude, on a team trip to Donegal.

Players Frankie Dolan and Nigel Dineen both apologised for their part in the incident, but following poor showing in both the Connacht championship against Galway, and the qualifiers against Mayo the county board decided drastic action was required.
