Cork gain revenge over Limerick
Limerick 1-15 1-16 Cork
Cork gained revenge for last year's championship defeat at the hands of Limerick by defeating the Shannonsiders by the same scoreline in Thurles.
Limerick, having lead for most of the game, lost their composure in the final period of the second half to let Cork in to seal the win.
Limerick lead 0-04 to 0-03 after ten minutes and extended the lead to 0-07 0-03 before Cork came back through scores from Joe Deane and Timmy McCarthy.
Two Mark Keane frees brought Limerick to an 0-11 0-07 half-time lead.
Limerick extended this to seven points through an Ollie Moran goal a minute into the second half.
However a goalkeeping error by Albert Shanahan gifted Cork's John Browne a goal.
Cork began to play with more drive and three unanswered points left a deficit of the minmum, before Stephen Lucey and Brian Begley edged Limerick ahead again.
Ben O'Connor then stepped up and took his first score of the game before Mark Keane and John Gardiner exchanged scores to leave Limerick ahead by one.
O'Connor again scored to level the sides at 1-14 all with five minutes to go.
Alan Cummins and Mark Keane swapped scores before O'Connor put over the winning point in injury time.
It is now widely rumoured that Limerick manager Eamonn Cregan and assistant Derry O'Donovan will now step down.
