Mayo have advanced to the next round of the All-Ireland qualifer series after an emphatic six-point win over Roscommon at sun-drenched McHale Park.

The Mayo attack - previously underfire - produced a brilliant display of point-scoring against an under-pressure Roscommon defence and Mayo led for almost the entire game.

Only the scoring prowess of Roscommons' Nigel Dineen, who scored two first-half goals, kept last year's Connacht champions in touch.

However, driven on by a superlative display from centre-back James Mallan and the scoring abilities of the Mortimers, Mayo were never in trouble and now advance with renewed confidence to the next round.
