Roscommon 3-19 Waterford 3-11

A contribution of 2-11 from their full-forward trio of Nigel Dineen, Stephen Lohan and Johnathan Dunning helped Roscommon to a hard-earned eight points win at Dungarvan this afternoon over Waterford in the opening round of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship qualifying series.

Waterford made the better start, scoring two goals in the opening quarter from Conan Watt and Shane Walsh.

A goal from wingback Martin Rafferty helped Roscommon to lead by 1-12 to 2-04 at half-time.

Roscommon scored a goal four minutes after the restart when Dunning finished a three man move to give his side a nine point advantage.

Michael Walsh got Waterford's third goal 20 minutes from the finish and it left his side only four points in arrears.

But when man-of-the-match Stephen Lohan scored the visitor's third goal in the 62nd minute it put the game beyond Waterford's reach.
