GAA:Fermanagh entertain at Brewster Park
Fermanagh 2-09 Sligo 0-11
Fermanagh showed great character to hold out for a deserved win in a most
entertaining game at Brewster Park.
Having led by 1-06 to 0-05 at half-time, Rory Gallagher getting a goal in
the 17th minute, they increased their lead in the first minute of the second
half when Raymond Johnston palmed the ball to the net from close range.
At that stage, Fermanagh led by 2-06 to 0-11 but three unanswered points
from a rampant Sligo in as many minutes left the issue wide open.
It took an outstanding performance by the Fermanagh defence to stop the rot.
Such was Sligo's dominance in which Eamonn O'Hara was the playmaker that the
half was 20 minutes old before Fermanagh got their next score.
At the other end, Sligo's main attacker Gerry MacGowan scored himself and
then created another point to lead his team three points adrift.
For a while it looked like Sligo would make the breakthrough but fresh legs
from the Fermanagh bench helped turn the tide and in the end they were well
on top.
Sligo's best chance fell to Sean Davey late in the game but it blasted wide
faced with an open goal.
