Football: Roscommon defeat Westmeath
Roscommon 0-16, Westmeath 0-12 (full-time)
Roscommon picked up their third Allianz National Football Division 1A point in 48 hours when they had four points to spare over neighbours Westmeath in a well-contested game played before 7,000 people at Hyde Park.
It was score for score in a tough first half with the sides level on four occasions but Roscommon points from Steven Lohan, Paul Noone and Nigel Dineen saw the home side lead by 0-08 to 0-06 at the break.
Roscommon established a foothold early in the second half with further points from Dineen and Lohan and the excellent Jonathan Dunning gave them a lead they were not to surrender.
Despite late scores from Westmeath's Vinny Gavin and David O’Shaughnessy, Roscommon held out for a deserved four-point win.
