GAA: Tipp and Wexford to replay after thrilling draw
Tipperary 1-16, Wexford 3-10 (full-time)
Michael Jordan's 72nd minute point culminated a magnificent Wexford second-half recovery as they snatched an injury-time draw with Tipperary in a dramatic All-Ireland hurling semi-final at Croke Park.
Four years since their previous semi-final head-to-head, much has changed in championship hurling, but it was in the closing 10 minutes of the opening half that Tipperary took the initiative and looked to have laid the foundations for victory.
After Paul Codd and Brian O'Meara had exchanged points in the opening seven minutes the sides were still deadlocked at 0-05 each just 21 mins into the game.
Then Mark O'Leary and Eoin Kelly stretched Tipp into a two-point lead, before John Carroll crashed home the game's opening goal following a long Brendan Cummins free four minutes before the break to leave Tipp with a 1-09 to 0-05 interval lead.
Despite Wexford's new-found status Tipp looked like justifying their tag of favourites.
Liam Dunne played excellently as he tried to inspire a Wexford recovery.
However, Wexford were struggling to halt the Tipperary momentum as the Premier County led 1-12 to 1-06 after 50 minutes with Larry O'Gorman's goal giving Wexford some hope.
A Rory McCarthy 51st minute goal handed Wexford a lifeline but the accuracy of Mark O'Leary and Eoin Kelly ensured Tipp still led 1-16 to 2-08 with six minutes remaining.
Wexford were now storming all over Tipp in their search for scores.
Larry O'Gorman, who switched to midfield, crashed home a goal four minutes from time and with points flowing from Adrian Fenlon and Michael Jordan, it was enough to ensure a replay next Saturday at Croke Park.
