Wexford as expected qualified for their first Leinster senior hurling championship final since 1997 with a comprehensive victory over Laois in their semi-final clash at Croke Park.

Wexford opened the game impressively.

After Paul Codd had pointed them in front from a free in the opening minute, they raced into a 0-7 to nil lead inside 16 minutes with Codd very much the main man up front.

Laois took until the 20th minute to open their account through a David Cuddy-pointed free.

They finished the half strongly with three successive points through Cuddy, Darren Rooney and Damian Culleton to trail 0-9 to 0-5 at the interval.

Laois gave hope of a revival with early second half points from David Cuddy and Joe Phelan to reduce the deficit to 0-9 to 0-7.

However Wexford regained the initiative. Paul Codd fired over four successive points and there were two more from Rory McCarthy to give Wexford a comprehensive win.
