Clare 2-21 3-8 Kilkenny

Clare sent a firm signal of their Championship intentions when they ousted the under-strength All-Ireland Champions Kilkenny in the National Hurling League semi-final at Semple Stadium, Thurles.

Inspired by Jamesy O'Connor, Clare struck 11 points from play in the opening half to lead 0-13 to 1-6 at half-time, having overcome the setback of Andy Comerford's eight minute goal.

Goals from Jamesy O'Connor and Barry Murphy pushed the Clare lead to 13 points shortly after the resumption.

Eddie Brennan and Jimmy Coogan responded with goals that brought some modicum of comfort to a much disappointed Kilkenny.
