Although the Kilkenny manager was not aware of Galway’s unanimous vote on Monday night in favour of their hurlers entering a single provincial structure, he recognises the value of having the Tribesmen in the senior competition and would happy to face them in Pearse Stadium – “wherever the match is fixed for, we’ll play, simple as that. That’ll be it. We don’t have power over that.”

He also favours Galway’s minors and U21s be permitted to play in Leinster.
