Harty Cup round-up: Nenagh shake off Castletroy

Jake Morris finished with eight points as Nenagh CBS pulled away in the second-half to beat Castletroy College 1-20 to 1-13 in Newport.

Leading 0-11 to 1-7 at half-time, Darren Coughlan with the Castletroy goal, Nenagh had a green flag of their own from Conor McCarthy and Morris, Seymour and Bryan McLoughney were all among the points. Mark O’Dwyer had 12 points for Castletroy.

Extra-time was required in the Waterford derby at Lemybrien before De La Salle won 1-18 to 0-16 against Blackwater CS. The Lismore school had led 0-14 to 0-10 with seven minutes left, Tom Barron featuring heavily on the scoreboard, but De La Salle sub Kevin Hennessy had them level with a goal with two minutes left. In the additional period, points from Harry Ruddle Redmond and Thomas Douglas were crucial.

Midleton CBS were 1-15 to 1-12 winners over Scoil na Tríonóide Naofa of Doon in Charleville. Liam Gosnell was scorer-in-chief for the East Cork side, scoring nine points, while their goal came from Ger Millerick to put them 1-10 to 0-6 ahead early in the second half, having been three ahead at half-time.

The free-taking of William Barry dragged Doon back into contention, with David Hickey and Mikey O’Brien impressing too, but they would have to wait until two minutes from time for a goal to materialise, Brendan Murphy the scorer.

Bob Purcell’s point reduced the deficit to three, but Midleton refused to yield.

At Ballyagran, Our Lady’s Templemore had a 6-27 to 0-3 win over Bandon’s Hamilton High School. Ray McCormack netted three times for the winners while Shane Doyle, Gearóid O’Connor andAndrew Ormonde got one each.
