Danesfort were sharp early on, taking a quick lead thanks in the main to inter-county man Richie Hogan.
The 2015 Hurler of the Year hit four swift points to help his side open up a five-point lead (0-6 to 0-1) but Mark Webster’s accuracy from frees pulled Fenians back into the game as the half wore on.
It was a close-fought first half, but despite shooting a number of wides, Danesfort managed to keep their necks in front. Tom Whitty and Paddy Hickey starred as they led by 0-9 to 0-6 at the interval.
Fenians rallied in the second half, with Webster (0-2), Kieran Grehan and Conor Tobin (free) making the game all square by the 39th minute. Danesfort did edge ahead again, but could have taken a massive lead, had Hogan’s fierce shot not come back off the crossbar.
With Hogan to the fore, Danesfort were two points up going into the final stages but Fenians, who have played in six relegation finals since 2000, weren’t finished.
Using all of their experience, they forced their way back into the game, Webster converting two late frees to send the tie to a replay.
