Eoin Cadogan faces long spell on the sideline after leg operation

Cork footballer Eoin Cadogan is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines as he recuperates from an operation on a long-standing leg injury.

The defender featured in the Rebels’ championship exit at the hands of Donegal but travelled to London to see a specialist on the achilles tendon problem, and was operated on yesterday. The length of the player’s rehabilitation will depend on the severity of the problem.

Cadogan starred for the Cork hurlers before deciding to concentrate on Gaelic football alone, and he was joined by his younger brother Alan on the football selection late this summer after a similar journey.

Alan Cadogan featured for the hurlers in their championship run, which came to an end against Wexford. The younger Cadogan brother, along with Aidan Walsh, then linked up with the county footballers for that defeat in Croke Park to Donegal.

As a link to Cork’s All-Ireland-winning team of 2010, Cadogan’s absence from Peadar Healy’s squad in the early part of next year would be a considerable blow to Cork’s chances of promotion from Division 2 in 2017.
