Both sides exited their respective provincial championships in tame fashion and despite first round qualifier wins last weekend, neither would have been fancied to progress had they been drawn against either Clare or Limerick.

“Liam Dunne said it in the Irish Examiner on Tuesday it was the best draw they could have hoped for. That is the reality of it. Clare and Limerick are ahead of us on the betting for the All-Ireland. I think Wexford were looking for us and we were looking for them. Liam was clear on that,” Ryan remarked.
