Kerry SFC Round 2A - Dr Crokes 2-16 St Kieran’s 3-12: After a facile passage to Round 2 the previous weekend, Dr Crokes were given a much sterner examination of their Kerry SFC credentials as they just sneaked past a dogged St Kieran’s side in Cordal on Saturday.

Indeed, the score that separated the sides was an issue of debate, as St Kieran’s contested the manner in which Colm Cooper laid the ball off to substitute PJ Lawlor for Crokes’ second goal in the 44th minute — believing the ball was thrown.

Crokes needed Ambrose O’Donovan to come off the bench and slot over two scores in a narrow one-point win. Dr Crokes knew they would be in a battle inside the opening minute when Thomas Hickey scored St Kieran’s’ opening goal. The hosts scored the opening 1-2 in proceedings before Crokes reeled off five unanswered points to level the match.
