Subs and Cormac Mulvihill dismissal swing it way of St Kieran’s

St Kieran’s 1-17 Feale Rangers 1-15: A double substitution midway through the second half turned this game in favour of St Kieran’s in Cordal yesterday.

Within seconds of being sprung from the bench, Daniel O’Shea pointed with his first touch while Currow club mate Johnny Buckley goaled to level matters entering the final quarter, before two injury-time points sealed the win.

The home side started brightly and were six points clear after eight minutes. Feale Rangers, backboned by nine Listowel Emmets players, found their rhythm and kicked four unanswered points to reduce the margin to four after a quarter of an hour.

The sides traded points but Feale Rangers took an unexpected lead into the break when the quick-thinking Conor Cox squeezed a 13m free to the net to edge his side ahead (1-6 to 0-8).

The north Kerry amalgamation then took control and rattled off a series of points with St Kieran’s reliant on Phillip O’Connor for scores.

Feale Rangers led by four points entering the final quarter but their momentum was stalled with the dismissal of Cormac Mulvihill for a second yellow card.

Then came the Currow super subs who swung the game back in favour of St Kieran’s.

Feale Rangers refused to surrender and hauled their hosts back level, but in a thrilling finish, St Kieran’s landed two injury-time points to claim a hard-won victory.
