Davy Fitz waits on injured Darach Honan

Clare manager Davy Fitzgerald doesn’t know yet whether Darach Honan will be fit for the trip to Wexford this weekend — but is relieved the attacker is not seriously hurt after suffering a chest injury on the opening weekend of the league.

The big Clonlara forward was taken to hospital after a challenge just before half-time in the 2-21 to 0-15 win over Offaly in Ennis.

Fitzgerald said the injury is not as serious as initially feared and while Honan has not been able to train during the week, he has not been ruled out of Sunday’s trip to Wexford.

“He just couldn’t breathe. The collision he got straight on into the chest, he couldn’t breathe after it. It was a pocket of wind. There’s nothing major wrong thanks be to God. We were worried at the time, we sent him straight to hospital, but it’s okay, said Fitzgerald.

The Clare manager is also waiting to see if John Conlon recovers in time for Sunday’s game against a Wexford side who lost their opening match away to Limerick and who need to win this one to keep their promotion hopes from Division 1B alive.
