Galway hurling coach Francis Forde says that the opportunity to link up with former teammate Micheál Donoghue in the Galway senior set-up was a chance he was never going to turn down.

Forde and Donoghue played alongside each other in maroon in the 1990s, and Donoghue even coached Forde in his final two years hurling with his native Turloughmore.

But after the duo missed out on the Galway job when Anthony Cunningham was first appointed in 2012, Forde said he wasn’t going to miss his chance the second time.
