Thurles Sarsfields to honour ‘oldest’ All-Ireland winner Mick Murphy

Mick Murphy, thought to be the oldest living All-Ireland hurling medallist, will be honoured with Thurles Sarsfields GAA Club’s Hall of Fame award this Saturday at the club’s Social Centre.

The 97-year-old was born in Kilmayley, Co Clare and won a Clare intermediate championship with them in 1938 and also played with Clarecastle, losing three Clare senior finals.

In 1940, he moved to Thurles to work and joined Thurles Sarsfields where he won Tipperary senior championships in 1942, 1944, 1945,and 1946.
