Eamon O’Shea dismisses link to Galway post
O’Shea has a close relationship with Michael Donoghue, favourite for the post, and Galway sources had indicated that he was set to come on board as coach with the Tribesmen if Donoghue succeeded Anthony Cunningham.
But speaking to Tipp FM yesterday, O’Shea insisted that an involvement with the Tribesmen is a non-runner.
He said: “When I finished with Tipp, I finished with coaching and management at that level for sure.
“I don’t really have the time any more, I probably didn’t have the time at any stage!
“My work is such now that I really don’t have a minute for anything else.
“In any case, my passion was Tipperary and my desire is for Tipp to win the All-Ireland next year, in the same way as the four guys have retired, I’m retired. I won’t be getting involved.”
O’Shea was referring to the four Tipp players who confirmed their retirements over the past week — James Woodlock, Shane McGrath, Conor O’Mahony and Lar Corbett.
And O’Shea, a professor of economics at NUI Galway, suggested that he will not coach or manage at the top level again.
He added: “No, to be honest with you. I really enjoyed my time with Tipp. I didn’t intend to do that job but it was the only job that I was engaged in.
“I had my time and it was wonderful working with those players. It was a wonderful phase in that it got me involved at a really high level. I’ve had my day and I’m very happy with that.”
