Tomás Ó Sé divulges Cork clubs’ advances
Ó Sé last year switched allegiance to Nemo Rangers but stressed his move to the Trabeg club had “nothing to do with money.”
“I have great time for that club (Nemo) and it’s not based on them being successful,” Ó Sé wrote in his autobiography, The White Heat, “Over the years I was approached by numerous clubs in Cork to play for them, given I was living here. When I retired two different clubs in Cork offered me money to play for them.
I have nothing against the other clubs in Cork; after this length of time living in the county I have buddies in all of those clubs. But lining out for Nemo had nothing to do with money. My young lad was up there and I liked their approach, the way they coached kids. And the way they coached adults, too...
“In our club back home, when a lot of fellas left An Gaeltacht, they left it. In Nemo I’ve noticed that they always come back; even some of the current seniors they have would be involved with underage teams.
“Maybe for that reason there were rumours for the last few years that I was on the verge of joining Nemo, and if those rumours went around sure enough I’d have a call from another club, ‘Just tell us what’s involved’, but none of those rumours were true. As long as I was able to play I played for Gaeltacht. And Nemo never asked me to play for them. They understood I was a club man at home.”
