A tight contest had been expected in this local derby, but, while the opening quarter produced six evenly-shared points, by half-time the victors were 0-10 to 0-4 to the good and there was no let-up in their dominance in the second half.
Daniel Twomey, operating from deep, set the tone for Newcestown in the first half, scoring four points. A vigorous workrate characterised their output, while Carthach Keane and Luke Meade were also prominent among the points.
Trailing by six at half-time, Valleys made three substitutions but couldn’t turn the tide upon the resumption. Eoin Kelly, Sean O’Donovan and Meade extended the Newcestown lead with Valleys only able to respond with frees from Chris O’Leary.
As the game wound down with the outcome looking more and more inevitable, the benches were emptied and the game became more open, Newcestown sub Mikey Bradfield adding two points while another replacement, Colm Dineen, made it 0-22 to 0-8 in the 59th minute.
At the death, Newcestown were awarded a penalty as Valleys goalkeeper Willie Burke was harshly penalised for charging and Daniel Twomey converted from the spot before Bradfield wrapped up the win.
