A tight contest had been expected in this local derby, but, while the opening quarter produced six evenly-shared points, by half-time the victors were 0-10 to 0-4 to the good and there was no let-up in their dominance in the second half.

Daniel Twomey, operating from deep, set the tone for Newcestown in the first half, scoring four points. A vigorous workrate characterised their output, while Carthach Keane and Luke Meade were also prominent among the points.
