Murphy pulls it out of fire for Carrigaline

Carrigaline 2-12 Éire Óg 0-16: A goal by former inter-county star Nicholas Murphy a minute into injury-time gave Carrigaline the unlikeliest of victories over Éire Óg in this PIFC semi-final replay at Brinny on Saturday.

Unlikeliest because for most of the game Carrig played second fiddle to a powerful Éire Óg side that held a six point lead with 10 minutes to go, only to be pegged back by a dogged Carrigaline who refused to give up the chase and qualify for the county final against the winners of the St Michaels/Castletownbere tie.

With two minutes of normal time left, Éire Óg led by two points but Carrigaline continued to press and points by Brian O’Keeffe and David Drake tied the game for the first time at the end of normal time.
