De La Salle in danger of the drop

Three time county champions De La Salle face a relegation play-off to keep their Waterford SHC senior status intact after Fourmilewater dumped them out of the race for the News & Star trophy on Saturday evening at Fraher Field.

De La Salle in danger of the drop

De La Salle, who lifted provincial honours in 2008 and 2010, only notched two second half points as the Ballymacarbry outfit ran out resounding 1-18 to 1-7 victors.

Jamie Sage’s goal separated the teams at half time (1-5 to 0-5) before the victors took charge. Craig Guiry drove at the De La Salle defence and set up Diarmuid Wall for a goal on 40 minutes (1-7 to 1-6). Benji Whelan’s team landed eight unanswered points in a lop-sided last quarter. Jamie Barron accounted for eight points with man-of-the-match Craig Guiry notching five from play. Fourmile meet Roanmore in the last eight on Saturday while De La Salle tackle Lismore in a battle to avoid intermediate hurling.
