Cork’s Jamie O’Sullivan to miss clash with Clare

O’Sullivan appeared to strike Dublin attacker Diarmuid Connolly off the ball during the counties’ clash in the Allianz League final at the end of April but was not sanctioned by referee Padraig Hughes during the course of the game.
The Bishopstown man was widely expected to face subsequent disciplinary action, most likely a one-game suspension based on the video evidence, but no proposed suspension was conveyed to Cork by the Central Competitions Control Committee. O’Sullivan was therefore believed eligible to play against Clare on Sunday.
There was surprise when O’Sullivan appeared to have escaped punishment — Dublin footballer Ciarán Whelan commented at the time: “I wonder what has come of the Jamie O’Sullivan incident in the league final when he took out Diarmuid Connolly with a dangerous challenge? I wonder would the incident have gone away if Connolly was the perpetrator? For some reason I doubt it very much.”
However, it has emerged that a one-game suspension had, in fact, been proposed for the Cork man but that this had not been communicated correctly to the Cork County Board after the league final.
It is understood that Cork has decided not to challenge the suspension in the short period of time between being informed of the proposed suspension and Sunday’s game, so O’Sullivan sits out the provincial semi-final against the Banner. He would be eligible for the next outing, either in the Munster final or the football qualifiers.
