Clare’s defeat to Limerick in Sunday’s Munster quarter-final makes it irrelevant, but they risked forfeiture after togging out a player not on their 26-man registered panel.

According to the rule, which came into operation for the championship after being passed at Congress in February, no player can be added to the panel submitted on or before the Thursday morning prior to a weekend match, with the exception of a goalkeeper or sub-keeper. The penalty for doing so is concession of the match.

Conor McGrath had been named in the team listed in the match programme, but injury ruled him out.
