Sporting school defers All-Ireland as opposing coaches on holiday

The post-primary schools C football decider was initially scheduled for this Saturday at the Gaelic Grounds, but reigning champions Coláiste Ghobnatán have been successful in deferring the fixture as two of their management team are away on holidays.

Explained the former Kerry All-Ireland winning captain: “Both myself and Daniel Dennehy are away on holidays this weekend. We booked them not expecting we’d get this far and not knowing the date for the final was set in stone from a long way out.

“We got onto Croke Park and they would accept whatever we came up with so long as there was agreement from both schools. We made contact with Rathangan who were very accommodating and it is a very decent sporting gesture on their part to agree to postpone the game.”

He added: “I don’t think it is a great idea to be scheduling schools finals for the Easter weekend. A lot of students and teachers are on holidays. The Hogan Cup final is next weekend as is the B final.”

The game has been re-fixed for Friday, April 10 at McCann Park, Portarlington (throw-in 7.30pm).
