Kerry chairman Patrick O’Sullivan defends Fionn Fitzgerald

Kerry board chairman Patrick O’Sullivan has challenged Dublin manager Jim Gavin’s claim Fionn Fitzgerald exaggerated his fall which led to Mick Fitzsimons’ sending off on Sunday.

Fitzsimons was sent to the line by referee Eddie Kinsella after charging into Fitzgerald during a melee in the second half. Gavin said: “Maybe the wrong call was made, we’ll need to review the tape, and for the sending off, the player (Fitzgerald) seemed to go down quite quickly, so again we’ll have to have a look at that.”

But O’Sullivan disputed Gavin’s version of the incident. “I’d be more disappointed than anything with what he said. The game was over. Move on, leave it at that. He (Fitzsimons) came at him from nowhere and Fionn got up straight away. He went at Fionn with intent.”
