Wexford beat UCD

Wexford may have been in experimental mode but they recorded a comfortable victory over UCD in this Walsh Cup senior hurling game at Páirc Uí Siocháin, Gorey, yesterday. Early scorers from Podge Doran and Joe Kelly set the scene for a period of Wexford dominance as they led 0-10 to 0-0 before the visitors opened their account through a 20th-minute Pat Purcell point. But with Kelly (2) and Shane Tomkins on target, the Wexford surge continued, Ross King keeping UCD in touch as the visitors trailed 0-17 to 0-5 at the break.

UCD brought more cohesion to their game on the resumption. Four second-half points from King saw them reduce the deficit after 44 minutes but Wexford quickly regained the initiative through the splendid play of half-backs Lee Chin and Paudie Foley before sub Kevin Foley opened their second-half account.
