GPA seeks €10m for ‘institute’ to develop players

The Gaelic Players Association (GPA) will soon begin talks to renew their agreement with the GAA and the players body will seek an increase on the €10m or so in funding they have received from Croke Park in their first six years working together.

The body’s list of player welfare services and projects has mushroomed since the GAA agreed recognition for the players group and that expansion in breadth and ambition was evident at yesterday’s annual report unveiling in Dublin.

Central to future plans is the establishment of an institute which will house the various services currently provided and others envisaged in the future and chief executive Dessie Farrell estimates that the cost of such a capital project could stretch to €10m.
