Cork 1-26 UCC 2-12: The heavy rain and wind didn’t make for a great spectacle, but there were some bright spots for Cork manager Jimmy Barry-Murphy as his side retained the Canon O’Brien Cup by beating UCC at the Mardyke last night.

Leading by 1-13 to 1-7 at half-time, Cork conceded an Anthony Spillane goal early in the second half but a series of points served to pull them clear of the hosts. Barry-Murphy was pleased to have poured some miles into legs.

“It was a good workout for both teams,” he said.
