Ardscoil Rís to meet Hamilton in Harty quarter-final

A repeat of last year’s semi-final pairing is in store as Dr Harty Cup holders Ardscoil Rís were drawn with Hamilton High School in the quarter-final.

Defeat to Thurles CBS in the group stage meant the Limerick city school had to be content with qualifying as runners-up and their Bandon opponents were one of only two schools to win all four group games.

Last year, Ardscoil triumphed when the sides clashed in the first round of group games.

Hamilton regrouped however to qualify and reach the semi-finals but Ardscoil beat them there again and defeated Scoil na Tríonóide Naofa of Doon in the final.

The winners of the Ardscoil-Hamilton tie will face either St Francis College, Rochestown — who also had a perfect group record and won the O’Callaghan Cup last night — or Nenagh CBS.

While Cork have four schools in the quarter-finals, all were kept apart.

The other side of the draw sees Castletroy College face Youghal’s Pobalscoil na Tríonóide while Thurles CBS go up against Gaelcholáiste Mhuire.

Those games are scheduled for January 14 with the quarter-finals of the Corn Uí Mhuirí down for decision a week later.

All-Ireland champions Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne are aiming for a fourth title in a row and they will face the only other school to have done so.

Tralee CBS were champions from 1931-34 and have the more recent benefit of having beaten Corca Dhuibhne in the O’Sullivan Cup semi-final.

The winners of this tie will play either Clonakilty CC or IS Killorglin.

Killarney’s St Brendan’s College, the competition’s record winners with 20 titles, beat Tralee in the O’Sullivan final and they will continue their quest for a Kerry-Munster double as they go up agains CBS HS Clonmel.

Coláiste na Sceilge were beaten by Brendan’s in the O’Sullivan semi-final and also finished runners-up to them in their group.

Their quarter-final opponents will be Rochestown.
