€100,000 Galway hurling deficit
The Galway SHC final between Portumna and Gort takes place on Sunday but with the annual accounts running to the end of October, gate receipts from this or some of the other knockout matches are not included in the accounts for the Galway hurling committee.
“The gate receipts from these games will lead to a surplus for the year but showing a deficit on the annual accounts is one of the impacts of not finishing our championship as planned,” said hurling chairman Joe Byrne.
The Galway SHC title race was held up for two months after Turloughmore were thrown out on a technicality for fielding an ineligible player who did not have the correct transfer to play in the United States.
Income for Galway hurling committee for the year was €724,554, down from €1,048,929 from 2013. Expenditure was €821,709, down from €981,153 on the previous year.
