Naomh Conaill now pondering taking their appeal to the Ulster Hearings Committee

The Glenties club failed with an ‘objection into the awarding of the game’ to the Donegal Competitions Controls’ Committee (CCC) regarding their 0-10 to 0-8 semi-final defeat by Glenswilly on Sunday last in Letterkenny.

Naomh Conaill’s objection was heard on Wednesday night, with the CCC deciding to adopt the referee’s report and let the result stand. Both clubs were notified by text that night and by email yesterday afternoon.

Officials from Naomh Conaill were remaining tight-lipped last night as regards any possible course of action. They can appeal the matter to the Ulster Hearings Committee within 72 hours of hearing the CCC verdict, therefore any time from Wednesday to tomorrow night.

The Donegal county final sees Glenswilly take on St Eunan’s from Letterkenny on Sunday at 4pm in Ballybofey.

Naomh Conaill objected to their defeat by Glenswilly in Sunday’s semi-final after last year’s Ulster finalists were allowed to replace a player who should have been dismissed under the new black card rules introduced this year.

Ciarán Bonner, the Glenswilly midfielder, was yellow carded in the first-half by match referee Jimmy White and then black carded two minutes from time for a foul on Anthony Thompson. Glenswilly were 0-8 to 0-7 up at the time. However, a substitution was permitted and Óisin Crawford replaced Bonner. Dermot Molloy levelled for Naomh Conaill before Crawford fired Glenswilly 0-9 to 0-8 in front in injury time.

Glenswilly went onto win by two points with Eamonn Ward scoring late on to seal a place in this Sunday’s final.

It is understood referee White included in his match report that Bonner did receive a yellow card earlier in the match and a black card late on.

The new black card rules introduced this year state that a referee must send off a player if he has given him a yellow card and then a black card.
