Clare had the opening point but managed only two more in a Tipperary dominated first half at the end of which they led by 0-7 to 0-3.
With nine minutes remaining Tipperary led by double scores, 0-12 to 0-6, but then came the amazing Clare comeback but it proved too little too late.
