Turloughmore turn to DRA in bid for Galway championship reprieve
The Connacht Council yesterday upheld the decision of the Galway CCC to throw Turloughmore out of the competition for fielding an ineligible player.
No date has been set for Turloughmore’s DRA hearing. Club officials are optimistic Galway top brass will postpone Sunday’s quarter-final involving Beagh and Ardrahan to allow a decision on the case before continuing the senior championship. Turloughmore have continued to train in the hope of the decision being overturned.
“Following a decision by the Connacht Council to uphold the sanction imposed on Turloughmore hurling club by the Galway CCC, Turloughmore have lodged an appeal to the Disputes Resolution Authority. Turloughmore hurling club would like to thank various clubs in Galway for their support,” said a club statement.
The North Galway club were dumped out of the senior championship after Matthew Keating lined out in last month’s group game victory over Beagh. Keating played in the US in the summer having been granted an inter-county transfer. A stipulation of that type of transfer is that a player can’t feature in two different championships in the same year.
