Fully-fit Brogan issues come and get me Rules plea to Earley

Former Footballer of the Year Bernard Brogan has issued a come and get me plea to International Rules manager Paul Earley, revealing he’d love to play again but hasn’t been asked.

Brogan didn’t feature in last year’s series following Dublin’s All-Ireland triumph though spent much of the winter nursing a hip issue that required surgery.

Earley convened his Ireland panel for a first session in Ashbourne last weekend, but while several Dublin players were involved, Brogan wasn’t invited.

The vastly experienced forward and former Ireland player says he is fully fit and would love the opportunity to take part in Perth on November 22.

“I’d love to play,” said Brogan. “Obviously my circumstances have changed a bit with work and stuff, running my own company so time commitment is a big factor for me at the moment.

“But as I said, if you’re ever called to play for your country, you answer that call but I haven’t got that call, unfortunately, yet.”

Brogan’s Dublin colleague, Michael Darragh Macauley, attended the training session but has suffered a thumb injury which will rule him out of any involvement.

Brogan said he is keen for any action and will be taking a full part in Dublin’s pre-season training and any early 2015 games having eased his way back into action in previous seasons.

“The hunger you get from losing one (an All-Ireland) is much greater than the hunger you have after winning one,” said Brogan.

“There will be no taking our time this year. I am very keen to get back in and start the ball rolling again and just try to get going.”

Bernard said older brother Alan was still making up his mind about a potential return next season.

- GAAGO, the international subscription-based online streaming service from the GAA and RTE Digital, was today announced as the Irish International Rules team sponsor.

The sponsorship will see GAAGO.ie adorn the Irish team jerseys in their upcoming test match against Australia in Perth on Saturday November 22, as well as team leisurewear and kit bags.
