Cratloe football boss Colm Collins has described the decision of Limerick veteran John Galvin to switch club allegiances across the border as a "fantastic lift" for the Clare outfit.

Galvin has been resident in Cratloe for the past two years and was successful in seeking a club transfer as he had not played club championship in Limerick this year.

Galvin moves from his native Croom, who were relegated to the junior ranks last season.

The three-time All Star nominee commenced training with the Clare champions last month and is set to make his debut in Saturday’s quarter-final clash against O’Curry’s.

“To have John in with us is a fantastic lift for everyone involved,” said manager Collins. “He is a massive addition to our squad. He has been one of the game’s top midfielders for the past decade.

“He brings so much experience and skill to the table. He’s been in with us for the last couple of weeks and is getting on well with all the lads.”

Galvin is Cratloe’s third high profile catch in as many years with Clare hurlers Brendan Bugler and Fergal Lynch integral members of last year’s squad.

Collins confirmed that Bugler, a native of Whitegate, has not yet trained with Cratloe. The club are attempting to achieve a hurling and football championship double, a feat never accomplished in Clare. The club’s hurlers last weekend advanced to the semi-finals when overcoming Éire Óg by 2-21 to 2-13.
