The champions defeated Moynalvey 1-17 to 0-12 at Dunsany on Saturday evening, having led 1-11 to 0-7 at the break. Brian Ennis had their goal in the first half before Moynalvey had county senior defender Padraic Harnan sent off on receipt of a second yellow card in the third quarter.

Na Fianna, first-time finalists last year, are through to the quarter-finals following a 1-10 to 1-9 victory over 2013 semi-finalists Rathkenny, who bow out of contention.

Four points from Jamie Queeney in the second half, including the winning score, gave the Enfield side the spoils, Meath forward Dalton McDonagh netting their goal.

One of the most fancied teams for outright honours, Navan O’Mahonys, recovered from recent indifferent form to hammer Walterstown 3-15 to 0-7 at Simonstown.

Goals from Ruairi Ó Coileáin and Darragh Smyth in the first half put the town team on the right road. They led 2-7 to 0-4 and Jake Regan netted the third goal in the closing stages.

Donaghmore/Ashbourne, managed by former Dublin midfielder Paul Clarke, were already through to the last eight and made it five win from as many starts when defeating St Patrick’s 0-17 to 1-11 at Páirc Tailteann.

The winners had nine different scorers, including Meath senior Andrew Tormey and Dublin U21 Michael Deegan. A win would have sent Pat’s through but they had Niall Mooney, who scored 1-6, dismissed on a straight red card on 48 minutes.

Seneschalstown advanced to a preliminary quarter-final with a runaway 4-15 to 2-7 success over Gaeil Colmcille at Pairc Tailteann on Friday night.

In a crucial clash in Trim last evening 14-man Skryne clinched a quarter-final place with a hard-earned 1-10 to 0-12 win over 13-man Dunboyne.

Graham Geraghty’s Duleek/Bellewstown also advanced with a 0-19 to 0-10 win over Oldcastle at Simonstown.
