McNamara the ace as Kilworth edge out Inniscarra

Kilworth 2-13 Inniscarra 1-12

Cork County PIHC: Better balanced Kilworth edged out Inniscarra in last night’s Cork County PIHC fourth round tie at Páirc Uí Rinn

In a low key affair, the teams were level eight times before the North Cork side stepped up their game and were crucially rewarded with their first goal in the 38th minute from Noel McNamara.

That settled Kilworth and from there on they looked likely winners.

They had a number of important players. Centre-back Nathan Byrne was a huge presence and midfielders Brian Tobin and Liam Whelan also impressed and contributed to the scoreboard.

Noel McNamara scored both their goals, while

Adrian Mannix scored important points for the Avondhu side. Having lost their opening two games to Carrigaline and Mallow, this win will be a major boost.

It was level at half-time, 0-6 apiece. Tomas O’Connor struck three points for Inniscarra with Colm Casey and David O’Keeffe also chipping in.

Mannix, with two points, Tobin, Joe Cahill, Will Condon and Liam Whelan kept the scoreboard ticking for Kilworth in that period.

Kilworth opened up a two point gap on the resumption, Mannix contributing on both occasions but Inniscarra responded with good points from O’Keeffe and Dan O’Connell.

O’Connor and Tobin exchanged points before McNamara fired home.

Tobin added a point and Kilworth were now in the driving seat.

Whelan put five points between the teams with another Kilworth point but Inniscarra were back in the chase in the 50th minute when Dan O’Connell goaled.

O’Connor pointed a free and it was back to a one point game with nine minutes remaining.

However, Kilworth responded again with a Mannix point in the 52nd minute. That was followed by McNamara’s second goal in the 53rd minute.

However, Inniscarra were not giving up easily and substitute Jerry Roche gave them hope with two points.

Kilworth were edgy in the latter stages but Mannix got the insurance point from a 65. Kilworth can now look forward with confidence to the rest of the campaign.
