Premier sweating on Cahill fitness
The Thurles Sarsfields man has been unable to train this past week because of a knee injury and Shane McGrath is expected to come in should the 25-year-old be unable to start.
Cahill had not trained for much of the build-up to the Munster semi-final against Limerick but lined out on the day. Were McGrath to come in, he would be expected to start on the half-back line, with Cathal Barrett moving to Cahill’s corner berth.
Eamon O’Shea’s defensive options are already limited with Conor O’Mahony out with an ongoing back injury.
Semple Stadium is expected to be close to a sell-out for the All-Ireland quarter-finals with only a small number of terrace tickets available for the double header.
Meanwhile, GAA president Liam O’Neill sympathised with the family of Offaly U21 hurling manager Dermot Hogan after he died in a freak accident at home on Thursday evening.
The Coolderry man fell as he was painting a shed in his home near Roscrea. O’Neill said: “Dermot’s passing is an enormous loss to the GAA, his county Offaly and his club Coolderry. He held a very special place in the hearts of his local community and was involved from the grassroots up.
“His commitment to his club was outstanding, he managed Coolderry to minor hurling success in 2008 and steered the club to an Offaly U21 title in 2010.
“He was a true GAA man and I know the sense of shock and loss throughout the local community has been widespread.
“Our thoughts and prayers and those of the wider GAA family are with his wife Marie, daughters Lisa, Rachel and Ciara, parents Kieran and Margaret, his immediate family and wide circle of friends at this very sad time.”
