Kiely: Déise want to challenge the best

John Kiely has a pretty straightforward view of the football championship and exactly who should play in it — "any fit, healthy young fella who wants to play for his county against the best".

As far as the former Waterford manager is concerned, there are no shades of grey to the argument. Reviving the Tommy Murphy Cup or an All-Ireland ‘B’ championship? “A competition for losers.”

Others, of course, don’t view things in such black and white terms. Already this week, Mick O’Dwyer and Clare football manager Colm Collins have suggested a two-tier championship, in some fashion, could work well.
